WCRC Meeting Minutes – October 27, 2005

 

·        Meeting called to order at 7:00 P.M.

·        Roll Call:   23  Members Present

·        Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved

·        Treasurers report was presented

·        The cost of the Megaphone has been reimbursed by the credit card company and a new Megaphone has been purchased.

·        NEW BUSINESS

·        The Red Bull Full Scale Air Races event and webcast was aptly described by John Eckel;  the event includes low level slalom style and aerobatics flying

·        Announced Hamkey Fly’s (Noon, Sun, Nov 13th and Noon, Sun, Dec 11th) and First Flight (Noon, Sat, Jan 1st); heat and food provided

·        John Eckel was asked to describe his vintage 1947 full scale Cessna 140 purchase experience; it sounds like a beauty.

·        AMA renewal membership forms have been received by most members present; get them in early

·        A consensus has been established regarding the funding for T52’s to supply Zagi Night target planes;  a coffee can will be passed at each Zagi Night event and the donated monies will be distributed for purchases as required (Tom Speelman);  donations of equipment are also encouraged

·        Pete Swaysay and John Eckel described a new full scale, two engine, Russian sea plane they saw in Oshkosh with a unique low wing design;  52 ft wing span, 4 passenger, $795K

·        Tom Haake, Nick Maggio and John Eckel described their Horizon blimp ride experience;  max speed 28 MPH, altitude 700ft, 17 full time crew, Nick described the ballast sandbags and the interior air bladder or ballonet

·        For those interested there is Indoor flying at the Lakehurst NJ blimp hanger, free memberships may be available

·        Tom Speelman gave a presentation on electric helicopter technology; advances in composite kits and electronics make it possible to build and fly a helicopter for $130 to $600 range, he described gyros, fixed pitch, collective pitch and cyclic collective pitch management system, he recommends using a flight simulator to develop the left hand skills necessary to fly a helicopter, Mark Hunter demonstrated heli flight with his Ikarus Picollo, Tom flew Chris’ Eflite Blade the latest in RTF electric helicopters available for $220

·        The October 50/50 was won by Pete Zaremba; $15.00
